On Monday, March 22, 2010, 88 golfers gathered at Newport Beach Country Club for the First Annual Skipper Dick Golf Tournament to honor the memory of former long-time NHYC member, Richard "Skipper Dick" Elliott. The tournament was originally a vision of Dick's son, Kirk, who believed that it would be a wonderful legacy to his father to support the efforts of the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation. Dick's love of the ocean and yachting was a lifelong journey and helping others achieve their dreams would make him proud to be a part of this event.
The tradition continued on April 25, 2011, with the Second Annual Skipper Dick Golf Tournament held once again at the wonderful Newport Beach Country Club. It was a day of sunshine and good times with friends. All of the funds raised supported the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation. The hard work and generosity of the sponsors and volunteers made the tournament a wonderful event to remember.
The Third Annual Skipper Dick Tournament was held on April 22, 2012 at Newport Beach Country Club. Good weather, food, drinks, cigars and plenty of friends made it a memorial day. Everyone enjoyed the "Girl Power" foursomes and they proved they were there to win!

The 2010 Tournament Winners included Paul Hegness, Wade Cable, Bruce Reilly and Ron Bradshaw with runners up, Dennis Shannon, John Stuart, Doug Welsh, Mike McNevin and Dave Storstad. The closest to the pin winners included Vern Underwood, Bill Seals, Wade Cable and Brad Hillgren and the longest drive for Men went to Ron Benedict and for Women to Kimberly Bernatz.

Deciding not to give up the crown, the 2011 First Place Gross Winners once again were Paul Hegness, Wade Cable, Bruce Reilly and Ron Bradshaw. The First Place Net Winners were Tim Collins, Sheila Collins, Aitch Hamilton and Steve Morton. The Closest to the Pin winners were Kathy Rothgeb and Mike McNevin and the Longest Drive winners were Barbara Meserve and Bruce Reilly. Congratulations to you all!

As promised by Paul Hegness, the 2012 First Place Gross Winners pulled off their "Three-Peat" and took the crown again! These guys are hard core but they deserve it! The team consisted of Paul Hegness, Wade Cable, Bruce Reilly and Ron Bradshaw. But we had our "girl power plus one boy" team come through for the First Place Net Winners of Barbara Meserve, Pat Werner, Sue Werner and Fletcher Olson. The Closest to the Pin winners were Bob Briggs and Linda Thompson and the Longest Drive winners were Bruce Reilly and Heidi Person.
